Practical household help for veterans

DVA Household Services can include domestic cleaning, laundry and ironing where the veteran has an accepted service-related condition and DVA determines that household support is reasonably required. Veterans' Home Care is a separate pathway with its own assessment and service arrangements.

Service 01 · Primary

Household Cleaning

We focus first on routine cleaning that helps keep the home safe, comfortable and manageable.

  • Bathrooms, toilets and kitchens
  • Vacuuming, mopping and dusting
  • Bedrooms and living areas
  • Regular approved service schedules
  • Service records suitable for DVA invoicing requirements
Service 02 · Approved Add-on

Laundry & Ironing

DVA expressly recognises laundry and ironing as household services where they are approved for the veteran.

  • Clothes and linen washing
  • Drying and folding
  • Ironing where approved
  • Pickup and return can be discussed where compatible with the determination
  • Cleaning remains the first service in our DVA pathway

How the DVA pathway works

1

Confirm eligibility

The veteran has an accepted service-related condition and applies for the relevant household-support pathway.

2

Assessment & determination

DVA assesses the need and, where approved, issues a determination or service arrangement describing what can be provided.

3

Choose the provider

For Household Services, the veteran can arrange an appropriate service provider within the approved scope and financial limits.

4

Invoice DVA correctly

From 1 July 2026, Household Services providers submit invoices for veterans through DVA's Provider Upload Page.

VHC is different: Veterans' Home Care has its own assessment, limits, co-payments and contracted-service arrangements. We will not describe a VHC service as directly billable unless the relevant arrangement has been confirmed.

DVA household-support questions

Does DVA cover cleaning?

DVA identifies domestic cleaning as a common Household Services support where the veteran meets the eligibility and assessment requirements.

Does DVA cover laundry and ironing?

Yes, laundry and ironing are also listed as common Household Services, but the veteran's approval and financial limits still control what can be claimed.

Can Silv's invoice DVA?

For an approved Household Services arrangement, providers submit invoices using the DVA Provider Upload Page. We still need the veteran's approval details and the correct service information before invoicing.

Is Veterans' Home Care the same as Household Services?

No. They are separate DVA pathways. We confirm which pathway applies before representing any service as DVA-funded.

Need DVA household cleaning?

Send us the approved service details and we can confirm the cleaning scope first, then add laundry or ironing where the determination allows it.
